A Celebration of Life Service for Donald D. Crowell, age 67, of Windom, will be held Thursday, January 4th at 11:00 AM at The American Lutheran Church in Windom, with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #206 of Windom, Minnesota. Burial will be held at a later date.
A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church in Windom.
DDonald Darwin Crowell was born on January 12, 1956, to Gerald "Babe" Crowell and Sylvia "Toby" Nolt Wagner at Windom Hospital in Windom, Minnesota. Donald was baptized and confirmed in Delafield Church. He attended Wilder Elementary School and later graduated from Windom High School in the class of 1974. Don had the distinction of being a candidate for admission to the U.S. Military Academy, also known as West Point. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas from September 13, 1974, until he was honorably discharged on October 5, 1978. While in the Army, Don received a Good Conduct Medal and was a Sharpshooter (Rifle). Following his service, Don attended Mt. Hood Community College and earned an associate degree in auto mechanics.
On August 13, 1993, Don was united in marriage to Kathy Jo Holtz at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman, Minnesota. Don worked as a forklift mechanic at Jerry's Repair, Country Pride Cooperative, he worked for 18 years as a Paint Lead at Toro, as a janitor at the American Lutheran Church, and a driver and customer service at Auto Value.
Don had a zest for life, and he loved with all his heart. Family was his pride and joy, especially his kids and grandkids, and had a special bond with his little buddy, Maverick. He enjoyed time in nature. His lively sense of humor made many people laugh, and he could always strike up a conversation and talk for hours. Don collected guns and because of his military training was a good marksman and a proud American. Don was a member of The American Lutheran Church in Windom.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023, Don passed away unexpectedly at Sanford Westbrook Hospital in Westbrook, Minnesota.
Left to cherish Don's memory are his wife, Kathy Jo Crowell; children, Kevin (Chelsea) Crowell, Christopher (Alyssa) Crowell, Nathan Krumwiede, Nicole (Jason) Roloff; seven grandchildren and one on the way, Maverick, Cayden, Jade (Christian), Rylee, Macee (Brandon), Bo Marie, Willow and baby Crowell; father, Gerald "Babe" (Kathy) Crowell; siblings, Mike Crowell, Dean (Kathy) Crowell, and David (Ruth) Crowell; niece and nephews, Sheyanne Crowell, Daniel Crowell, and Josh Crowell; mother-in-law, Marvis Holtz; sister-in-law, Deb (John) Bosshart; niece, Alisha (Adam) Prange; and nephew, Justin (Sarah) Bosshart, Callan and Melia.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Wagner; sister, DeeAnn Crowell; grandparents, Herald & Edna Crowell, and Lyle & Ruth Nolt; father-in-law, Donald Holtz.
