Obituary

A Celebration of Life Visitation for Donald "Don" Abild, age 90, of Windom, will be held Friday, July 12th from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Military honors will follow by American Legion Post #206 of Windom. A private family burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Donald "Don" Lee Abild was born to Marion W. and Martha (Lunde) Abild on March 7, 1934, in Wakonda, South Dakota. He received his later education in Luverne, Minnesota, graduating in 1952. Don enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in December 1955.

After the Army, Don went back to Luverne and began working for the Minnesota State Highway Department. On August 3, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Mohr in Luverne. The couple moved to Windom, Minnesota, in 1957, and Don continued working for the State Highway Department, until retiring in the early 1990's. The couple was blessed with three children, Bruce, Brenda, and Brian. Don loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren.

Don was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. He loved nature and being outside on a beautiful day and was a golf enthusiast who loved a day on a great golf course. Don was a member of the American Legion Post #206 and was very active in the local, district and state American Legion. He served on the Windom City Council for several years and was active in the Democratic Party for many years.

On May 6, 2024, Don passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society - Sogge Memorial, in Windom. He donated his body to science at the University of Minnesota.

Left to cherish Don's memory, are his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Abild of Windom; three children, Bruce Abild of Ortonville, Brenda (Dale) Stanton of Cologne, and Brian Abild of Windom; six grandchildren, Brady, Ben, Jacob, Jayd, Rose, and Madison; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol Abild of Brooklyn Center and Virginia Abild of Windom; as well as many relative and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gerald Abild and twin, Ronald Abild.
