Donald Duane Schoenenberger was born on September 22, 1931, in Worthington, Minnesota to Joseph and Evelyn (Schaffer) Schoenenberger. He received his education from Jeffers Public School. After high school, Donald enlisted in the United States Army where he served for over twenty years. Donald was a Master Sergeant and during his time in the military he served in the Vietnam War. He received many medals including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Svc. Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Armed Forces Expeditionary Svc. Medal. On September 24, 1952, Donald was united in marriage to Donna Janét Rupp in Westbrook, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with nine children, Dennis, Denise, Debra, David, Duane, Darl, Doreen, Daniel, and Diana. After Donald retired from the United States Army in 1972, they made their home in Windom, Minnesota where he worked at the Windom Liquor Store. Donald passed away with his family by his side on Thursday afternoon, November 14, 2013 at the age of 82. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. He also was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America and commander of the Windom VFW. He enjoyed doing crafts especially his wood carving; watching westerns and football --- Go VIKES!; traveling; chatting with people; and most of all spending time with his family. Donald is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Donna Schoenenberger of Windom; seven children, Debra (Randy) Gergen of Granville, IA; David (Margaret) Schoenenberger of Billings, MT; Duane (Veronica) Schoenenberger of Westfield, IN; Darl (Pam) Schoenenberger of Eagan; Doreen (Jeff) Benson of Hermosa, SD; Daniel (Debra) Schoenenberger of Windom; and Diana (Greg) Eide of Richfield; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann Wehmeyer of Westbrook; one sister-in-law, Shirley Schoenenberger of Windom; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Dennis Schoenenberger; his daughter Denise Schoenenberger; his grandson Nicholas Gergen; and his brother Melvin Schoenenberger.
