Donald Eldon Wiese was born on Dec. 1, 1923, to Alvin and Melanie (Sindt) Wiese, in Kanaranzi, Minn. After graduating from Magnolia High School, he joined the US Navy where he took basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. On route to San Diego for deployment to the South Pacific as a medical corpsman, he contracted rheumatic fever and served out the remainder of his commitment at the San Diego naval hospital. Following his naval service, he returned to Minnesota to work at the Kanaranzi Bank. On August 15, 1947, Don married Lois Jean Leech, his high school sweetheart. They lived in Magnolia, Minnesota until moving to Windom in 1954 where he worked as a farm manager for Mary Brooks Lands, and later as a partner in Malone & Wiese Farm Management Services. He also served as a Civil Defense director for the City of Windom, Justice of the Peace and a substitute mail carrier. While in Windom, he was a volunteer with the city ambulance service, and active in the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the Methodist Church. In 2008, Don and Lois moved to Keystone apartments in Eagan, MN. He and Lois were married 64 years at the time of her death in 2011. In 2015, he moved to Southview Acres in South St Paul, MN where he passed away on April 1, 2016 at the age of 92. Don Wiese was a loving husband, father, grandfather and pet lover. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois and his brother Lester Wiese, brother-in-law Larry Leech, and sisters-in law Lorraine Wiese and Doris (Paulson) Leech. He is survived by his four children: Rhonda Wiese (Don) Nicklin, Papillion, NE, Gary Wiese (Sandy), Eagan, MN, Lori Wiese (Robert) Parks, St. Paul, MN, and Karen Wiese (Doug) Thompson, St. Paul, MN; five grandchildren: Jennifer Nicklin, Maple Grove, MN Danny (Nicole) Nicklin, St Paul, MN, Wendy Nicklin(Brandon) Stange, Omaha, NE, Francis Thompson, St. Paul, MN and Christopher Wiese, Eagan MN; three grand dogs: Chiyo, Maisie and Ted, and two great grandcats: Bruce and Logan. At the time of his death, he was eagerly looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild.
