Donovan "Donnie" L. Herder was born on March 22, 1944, in Walnut Grove, Minnesota to the late Clarence and Eulalia "Sis" (Holznagel) Herder. He was baptized and confirmed at the Walnut Grove Lutheran Church and received his education in the Walnut Grove Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1962. After graduation, Don remained in Walnut Grove. On September 5, 1970, Don was united in marriage to Sandra Irwin in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Melissa and Roxann. After marriage, Don and Sandy moved to Sanborn, Minnesota where Don owned and operated Don's Trailer Sales. In 1990, they moved to Windom and in 2000, Don retired due to health concerns. For the past ten years, Don had been receiving dialysis treatments and was just hospitalized at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away Sunday evening, July 25th, 2010 at the age of 66 years. Don will be remembered for many things in life including his love of fishing, bingo, auto racing, rodeos and being a huge Minnesota Vikings fan. Don is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Sandra Herder of Windom; two daughters, Melissa Penas and her husband, Scott of Windom; Roxann Irwin of Sleepy Eye; and one sister, Ramona Herder of Richfield. Don is preceded in death by his parents and friend, Larry Gruendemann. Blessed be the memory of Donovan "Donnie" L. Herder.
