Dorean Kay Thom was born on April 18, 1965 in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Leslie Eldon and Delores Dorean (Kilker) Janssen. She was baptized in Fulda and was later confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Dorean received her early education at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Vesta Public Schools and Immanuel Lutheran Christian School in Lakefield. She graduated from Lakefield High School and then attended the Jackson Area Vocational Technical Institute in Jackson, Minnesota. On June 16, 1984, Dorean was united in marriage to Russell Robert Thom at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. This marriage was blessed with a son and daughter, Cassandra and Dustin. For twenty-nine years, Dorean worked at the Home for Creative Living in Windom and was currently the team lead for Apartment 4. Dorean loved kids and angels. She enjoyed her time spent with friends, family and vacations. Recently, Dorean was recovering from breast cancer. On Friday morning, January 9, 2015, Dorean became suddenly ill and was taken to the Windom Area Hospital in Windom where she passed away at the age of 49. Dorean was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Dorean is survived by her husband of thirty years, Russell Thom of Windom; two children, Cassandra Josephine Thom of Sturgis, SD; Dustin Robert Thom of Windom; mother, Delores Janssen of Lakefield; two brothers, Lance (Laurie) Janssen of Spencer, IA; Devin (Julie) Janssen of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. Dorean is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Janssen; and sister, Genise Ann Janssen. Blessed be the memory of Dorean Kay Thom.
