A Celebration of Life Service for Doris Schlager, age 80, of Jackson, will be held Friday, April 26th, at 11:00 AM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson, with Father Dharma Pasala officiating. The burial will be at the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Friday, April 26th from 9:30 – 11:00AM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson.

Doris Lorraine (Drahota) Schlager was born on November 12, 1943, in Jackson, Minnesota, to Leonard and Margaret (Vrchota) Drahota. She was baptized and raised in the Catholic faith. Doris attended school in Jackson, graduating in the Class of 1961.

On June 29, 1963, Doris was united in marriage to Richard Schlager. The marriage was blessed with two children, Pam and Todd. The family lived on a farm in Jackson after marriage, then moved to Spirit Lake, IA for one year, until moving to Petersburg Township in 1969, and made their final move into the town of Jackson in 1994.

Doris worked as a teacher's Aide at Riverside Elementary and enjoyed the summers off with her kids as they grew up. During the summer, Doris planted and cared for a huge garden, and enjoyed canning and preserving her abundant garden produce. The family also enjoyed camping together through the summer. Doris also worked for Sperry Univac Manufacturing in Jackson, Core Source/Reliastar processing healthcare claims and billing. In 2009, Doris retired from working.

Doris was very creative and enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She loved making homemade stamped cards for the people she loved. She loved her children and grandchildren and cherished their time together.

On Sunday, April 21, 2024, Doris passed away peacefully at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota.

Left to cherish Doris' memory are her children, Pam (Dion) Spoo of Estherville, IA and Todd (Carrieann) Schlager of Cape Coral, FL; three grandchildren, Nathan (Jamie) Spoo, Logan (Marissa) Spoo and Hailey Schlager; two great-grandchildren; sister, Jan Olsen; and many relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Leonard and Margaret Drahota, brothers, Ron Drahota and Lenny Drahota; sister, Cindy Stone; parents-in-law, Albin and Mildred Schlager; sister-in-law, Jan (Calvin) Stade.
