Obituary

Dorothy Marie (Johnson) Grunig was born on July 8, 1930, in St. Peter, Minnesota to the late Walter and Laura (Quade) Johnson. She received her education in the Jeffers Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1948. On October 2, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roger Grunig at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with one son, Farley. Dorothy farmed with her husband for several years and then worked at the People's State Bank of Comfrey for forty-years until retiring on December 31, 1995. After retiring, Dorothy continued to live in Comfrey with Roger where they enjoyed many years of retirement together. Roger passed away on July 18, 2018. After his death, Dorothy continued to live in Comfrey and on Monday, October 26, 2020, Dorothy became suddenly ill and was taken to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota where she passed away at the age of 90 years. Dorothy was a longtime member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed coffee with friends and dining out with her family. Dorothy is survived by her one son, Farley Grunig (fiancé Marj Christensen) of Bingham Lake; one granddaughter, Bethanie (Clint) Leonard of Prospect, Tazmania, Australia; three great-grandsons, Niccolo and Jax Grunig, London Leonard; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Grunig; one grandson, Brad Grunig; two sisters, Florence Schmotzer and Hazel Leopold; and daughter-in-law, Gail (Liesenfeld) Grunig. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Springfield City Cemetery, in Springfield, MN. Memorials are preferred to the St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the LaCanne Family Funeral Service Facebook page. The video will start about 5 min before the start of the service.
