A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Michael R. Fisher, age 81, of Windom, will be held on Saturday, January 4th at 10:30 AM at The American Lutheran Church in Windom. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
A visitation for Dr. Mike will be held on Friday, January 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue on Saturday at The American Lutheran Church in Windom for one hour prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Dr. Michael Rand Fisher was born on March 25, 1943, to Alex and Eileen (Gorman) Fisher in Slayton, Minnesota. The family moved throughout Minnesota, and Michael graduated from Fulda High School in the class of 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota Morris, and then attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, earning his doctorate in 1967. After graduation, Michael moved to Windom and began practicing Optometry.
On December 31, 1971, Dr. Michael was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Peterson in Fairmont, Minnesota. The union was blessed with one son, Michael Brandon. In 1978, Dr. Michael and Pat built a new practice at the current Fisher Eye Care Clinic location in Windom. Dr. Michael retired in 2015. As a longtime member of the Windom community, Michael was active in many groups and organizations. He served on the Windom Hospital board and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Kiwanis, Trap Shooting, University of Okoboji Corvette Club, and the Evangelical Free Church of Windom
Dr. Michael's love of big game hunting spanned more than 50 years. He and Pat enjoyed many hunting trips together. Dr. Michael was recognized with several distinguished big game hunting awards over the years, including the SCI Continental Award North American 12, Super 10 of Big Game of North America, North American Grand Slam of Wild Sheep, and he SCI Award for African 15.
On December 25, 2024, Dr. Michael passed away peacefully at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 81 years.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Michael Brandon Fisher of Windom; siblings, Dr. Mark Fisher (Kathy) of Eden Prairie, Dr. Deb Fisher (Stan Brown) of Edina; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dr. Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Fisher; as well as his parents and parents-in-law, Maurice and Ruth Peterson.
