Edith Agnes Morphew was born on May 16, 1921 in Rose Hill Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Vladimer and Agnes (Kopeste) Horkey. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Edith received her education in District 56 of Rose Hill Township.
On June 14, 1939, Edith was united in marriage to Clarence Morphew at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. This marriage was blessed with four children and made their home in Windom. Edith was janitor at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior and did house cleaning for many years as her side job. Clarence passed away on March 16, 1999. After his death, Edith continued to live in Windom.
Recently, Edith was placed in hospice care in her home and she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 at the age of 99 years.
Edith was a longtime, active member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom where she was past chairman of the funeral committee and chairman of Vacation Bible School for years along with volunteering at the food shelf for twenty-five years. Edith enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, loved her flowers and watching wildlife/birds by her home and time spent with family and friends.
Edith is survived by her four children: Roger Morphew of Windom; Shirley (Charles) Paden of Windom; Dennis (Kris) Morphew of Sioux Falls, SD; Daniel (Kathy) Morphew of Windom; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sister, Marion Nelson of Arkansas; sister-in-laws, LaMae Horkey; Mary Horkey; Millie Horkey; and many nieces and nephews.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Clarence; brothers: Elmer, Sylvester, Lyle, Delton, Donald, Vernal "Bud", Darrel and Harold Horkey; sisters: Dorothy Nichols; Evenlyn Jensen and Margaret Johnson.
Edith's one wish was to remain at home and due to the care given by close family, Michelle Miller and Sanford Hospice her wish of being able to stay at home was fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who helped make Edith's wish come true.
