A Celebration of Life service to honor the life and legacy of Edna Kliewer age 96, of Mountain Lake, formerly of Windom, will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake on Tuesday, March 4th at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Mountain Lake Cemetery in Mountain Lake.
Edna Ruth Kliewer was born on June 29, 1928, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to the late Edward and Lena (Kruger) Karschnik. She was baptized on July 15, 1928, and later confirmed on April 18, 1943, in Mountain Lake. She received her education from Mountain Lake Public Schools and then attended Mankato State Teachers College where she graduated on December 3, 1948. Edna taught school in a one room schoolhouse and then 5th grade in Butterfield. She also taught 3rd grade in Trimont.
On June 12, 1951, Edna was united in marriage to Edward Kliewer at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. This marriage was blessed with two children, Greg and Kay. After their marriage, Edna and Ed lived in Mountain Lake where Edna was the bookkeeper for Kliewer Electric. In 1992, they moved to Windom where they have lived for over thirty years. Ed passed away on February 22, 2013. After his death, Edna continued to live in Windom until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Lake. Edna was recently hospitalized at Windom at Windom Area Health and passed away there on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025, at the age of 96 years.
Edna was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and confirmation, sang in the choir, a member of altar guild and LWML. Edna and Ed enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Arizona for nineteen years. She also enjoyed sewing, baking and flowers.
Edna is survived by her one son, Greg Kliewer of Worthington; one daughter, Kay Stevens and her husband, Vern, of Melba, ID; one sister, Elaine O'Neil of Tucker, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Kliewer; Greg's girlfriend, Bounthavy (Dao) Thammachanh; two brothers and their wives: Earl (Arlene) Karschnik, Harvey (Virginia) Karschnik; as well as one brother-in-law, David O'Neil.
