Edna Dorr Nelson died on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the age of 89 years old at her daughter's home in Jeffers, MN. Edna was born on May 13, 1921, in Dawson, MN, to Albert and Magdalena (Marquardt) Werner. She graduated from Wood Lake High School and continued her education at St. Cloud State Teachers College. She received her teaching certificate and taught country school. On February 11, 1943, Edna was united in marriage to Dr. Warren F. Dorr. They resided in Jeffers, MN. Three children blessed this union. On February 13, 1970, Warren passed away after a battle with cancer. On July 18, 1975, Edna married Victor J. Nelson and moved to his home in rural Echo, MN. Victor passed away suddenly on September 6, 2004. After Victor's passing Edna continued to live on the farm for 1 year and then returned to Jeffers in 2005. She went to live with her daughter (Shawna) and son-in-law (Mark) in October of 2008. Edna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, Jeffers American Legion Auxiliary in Jeffers and Wood Lake Auxiliary in Wood Lake, MN. Edna lived life "full speed." She became the first woman to serve as a school board member for Jeffers Public School and then Storden-Jeffers Schools. Edna loved to travel, bake, sew, play cards (especially bridge), read and garden. She was most happy when she had her family surrounding her. She enjoyed the summer months at her lake home on Lake Shetek. Edna will be especially remembered for her love of family, friends, her warm hospitality and kind heart. Survivors include her son, Robert Dorr (Gayle) of Burnsville, MN; two daughters, Shawna Dorr-Jones (Mark) of Jeffers, MN and Tanley Dorr of Edina, MN. Her grandchildren Matthew Langland, Lindsay Langland, Riley Jones of Jeffers, MN, and Timothy Jones of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her great-grandson Wyatt Johnson of Jeffers, MN. Brother Wayne Werner (Betty) of Minneapolis, MN, sisters Hazel Bahn of Wood Lake, MN, Alice Bottcher of Granite Falls, MN. Sister-in-law Orpha Werner of Granite Falls, MN along with many nieces and nephews. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Magdalena Werner, her husband's Dr. Warren F. Dorr and Victor J. Nelson, brothers Raymond and Ralph Werner, sister Alda Braasch, father and mother-in-laws William and Martha Dorr, John and Martha Nelson, sister-in-laws Francis Werner and Gertrude Dorr O'Connor, brother-in-laws Arthur Braasch, Herman Bahn Sr., Arthur Bottcher and Francis P. O'Connor. Edna will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
