Obituary

Edward John Freking, son of Edward C. and Marion (Heger) Freking, was born on March 21, 1947 in Heron Lake, MN. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, Okabena High School and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1965. After high school, he started farming and was a member of the 452nd Army Reserves in Worthington. Ed then married Colleen Burns on July 27, 1968. He served 10 months in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in June of 1969 and then returned to farming until his death. Ed and Colleen were blessed with four children. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Herbert K. Kellam Legion Post 224, all in Heron Lake, and the Jackson County Pork Producers. Faith, family and farming were his passions. Ed was a loving, faithful and proud husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Colleen Freking of Heron Lake; four children Jason (Tracy) Freking of Heron Lake, Amy (Lance) Glaser of Eagan; Ryan (Erika) Freking of Lakefield; Lance Freking of Alexandria; mother, Marion Freking of Northfield; brothers, Gary (Sherry) Freking of Northfield; John (Jody) Freking of Colorado Springs, CO; Duane Freking of Omaha, NE; Anthony (Ann) Freking of White Bear Lake; sisters, Mary Jo Curtin of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Monica Freking of St. Louis Park; grandchildren, Brooke, Samantha, Conner, Kalea, Alana, Grant, Kali, Mauer, Kolston; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his father, Edward C., brother Gregory, sister Joan Barker, granddaughter Elly Anna, father and mother-in-law Ray and Marilyn Burns, brothers-in-law Gary and Dick Burns and Brian Curtin. Ed lost his 11-month battle to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on June 26, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom at the age of 72 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to either the ALS Association or the Sacred Heart Foundation.

LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center- Windom

4:00 - 7:00 pm

Rosary prayer service and parish prayers will start at 7:30 PM at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom on Tuesday following the visitation. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
