Elaine Faye (Daggett) Mayden was born February 7, 1942 in Hartley, Iowa to Wilbur and Marie Daggett. She was the second of six children with one sister and four brothers. Her family farmed near Melvin, Ocheyedan and Harris, Iowa.
Elaine graduated from Harris High School in 1960 as the valedictorian and president of her class. After graduation, she worked in her uncle's grocery store in Sanborn, Iowa. In Sanborn, she was introduced to Robert "Bob" Mayden, Jr. She and Bob were married in August of 1962. After a honeymoon in northern Minnesota, they lived in Lake Park, Iowa where Bob was a high school teacher and Elaine was a homemaker. In October 1963, they were blessed with the birth of their first daughter Jerilyn. In 1965, they relocated to Little Rock, Iowa and within the next few years, welcomed their daughters Jolene and Marcia. Elaine was a loving and caring stay-at-home mom to her three girls. She sewed clothes for the girls and most of their dolls.
Bob and Elaine moved their family to Windom, Minnesota in 1976. Being a natural caregiver, Elaine began working as a nurse's aide and later a physical therapy assistant at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom. She worked there full-time for over 25 years and developed close friendships with co-workers and residents. She continued volunteering with bingo and other activities after retirement. Elaine was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church.
For many years, Elaine was Windom's favorite cake decorator, often baking and decorating 30 graduation cakes each year plus many more for family, friends and the Sogge Home's birthday parties. She made the best frosting!
After their retirement, Elaine and Bob enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially their daughters and six grandchildren. Elaine was so proud of her grandchildren and loved to watch their ball games and concerts.
Elaine passed away in her home on June 19, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is loved by her family and friends and will be missed until they meet again.
