Eleanor Ann Sydnes was born in Jackson County, Hunter Township, Minnesota on March 31, 1927, the daughter of John and Anna (Matasovsky) Zellar, Sr. Eleanor was confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township in 1939, and attended Lakefield High School, graduating in the Class of 1945. She then attended Mankato State College and then taught school in a rural Jackson County for 2 years.
Eleanor was united in marriage to Loyal Sydnes on June 11, 1950, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. After marriage, they lived on the family farm until moving into Lakefield for many years before moving back out to the family farm west of Lakefield with their two children.
Eleanor first worked for the Rue Insurance Agency doing income tax and insurance. In 1953, Eleanor started selling Federal Crop Insurance for Jackson County where she was an agent for over 40 years. Loyal joined her in this business, as well as their son, Scott, who later took over the business in 1994. She also sold health insurance for many years for Physicians Mutual Insurance.
Eleanor was currently a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield where she passed away peacefully on March 21, 2022, at the age of 94 years. She will have her 95th birthday next week in heaven.
Eleanor was active in many groups at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was also a member. She loved to bowl and enjoyed traveling to tournaments across the country. Eleanor loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Scott (Kerry) Sydnes and their children, Jacob, Kaleb, Noah and Seth of Lakefield; daughter, Lisa (Dr. Nathan) Bye and children, Ethan and Melanie of Osage, IA; sisters-in-law, Shirley Zellar and Nora Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyal, in 2012; brother, Gerald in 2016; and her brother, John Jr. in 2010.
