Eunice Mae
Erpestad
Jul 17, 1928 — Oct 6, 2024
A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Eunice Erpestad, age 96, of Windom, will be held Monday, October 14th at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at The American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating. Burial will be at Delafield Township Cemetery in Jackson County, MN.
The service will be livestreamed on the church's Facebook page.
Eunice Mae (Wahl) Erpestad was born on July 17, 1928, to Carl and Anna (Mischke) Wahl, at the Slayton Hospital in Murray County. She was baptized in infancy by Reverend Sharfe and confirmed in 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran by Reverend Krueger. She attended rural elementary schools in the Westbrook area and graduated in 1946 from Westbrook High School.
Eunice worked at the Windom Co-op Oil, where she met William Erpestad. On August 11, 1951, she married Bill in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota, with Bill's uncle, Emil Erpestad, officiating.
They lived on a farm west of Windom for over 40 years, raising four sons, who meant the world to Eunice. She kept busy raising a family and helping outdoors. She always had a big garden and enjoyed baking apple bars, brownies, chocolate chip and raisin cookies, and cinnamon rolls to keep the boys happy. With five guys in the family, she enjoyed a lot of ball games, including fast pitch and slow pitch softball. She was active in 4-H, and she learned how to fish. With friends, they found the perfect lake, Little Bass Lake, up north with a nice beach, and they always caught fish. The boys loved to go there, so they spent a week at the lake before school started.
Eunice enjoyed volunteer work and there were always lots of jobs in church and 4-H. She loved quilting and was on the Alter Guild. When the kids were grown, she told them to move somewhere that would be good to visit, and they did. Eunice and Bill enjoyed traveling to Oregon, New York City and seeing the Statue of Liberty, Washington D.C., Colorado and New Mexico many times. They retired to Windom and enjoyed a lot of years there.
Her last employment was for Senior Dining and home delivered meals. She enjoyed it so much and made a lot of friends. Then came Hillside Manor, where she enjoyed living. With good friends she enjoyed lots of coffee and meals together.
On Sunday, October 6, 2024, the Lord whispered, "Come Unto Me". Eunice passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society, Sogge Memorial in Windom.
Left to cherish her everlasting memory, are her children, Gary (Joan) Erpestad of New Castle, CO, Kevin (Kris) Erpestad of Silt, CO, and Craig (Melanie) Erpestad of Rochester, MN; daughter-in-law, Karen Erpestad of Lakefield; 9 grandchildren, Heather, Hilary, Ryan, Kristin, Nicole, Sara, Jessica, Matthew and Melissa; 17 great grandchildren; sister Coralyn Comnick; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Erpestad; son, Reid Erpestad; grandsons, Keith Erpestad; grandson-in-law, Ryan Klenken; parents, Carl and Anna Wahl; sister and brother-in-law, Vernice and Rueben Gertner; parents-in-law, Joseph and Sophie Erpestad; and brother-in law, Ronald Comnick.
Blessed be the memory of Eunice Mae Erpestad.
