Eva Cuperus Schmidt, daughter of Dutch emigrant parents, Jan and Gretji Cuperus, was born on August 22, 1923 in Holland. At the age of two, Eva and her family emigrated to the United States and settled in Rost Township, Jackson County, MN. Eva was baptized on July 19, 1936 and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rost Township. Eva grew up on the family farm and attended St. Paul Lutheran School until the 7th grade. Eva would help the family by doing whatever chores were needed to be done and she was an extremely hard worker that showed throughout her life. On June 23, 1946, Eva was united into marriage with Wilbur Earl Schmidt in Rost Township. This union blessed them with two sons, John and Roy. The family then moved to Windom where Eva started working at Toro until retiring in 1986. Eva and her family were members of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom where Eva was involved with the ladies aid and the funeral committee. Eva passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Pineview Assisted Living at the age of 97 years. Eva is survived by her two sons, John Schmidt of Delft and Roy Schmidt of Windom; one sister, Effie Systma of Black Hawk, WI; five grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in by her parents, Jan and Gertji Cuperus; husband, Wilbur Schmidt; three brothers, Jake, Bernard and Loren Cuperus and two sisters, Hilda Paslay and Edna Swenson.
