Evelyn (Evie) Elaine Hussong, 91, of Okabena died Sunday, October 16, 2022, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Born December 10, 1930, on a farm 3 miles northeast of Lakefield, she was the daughter of Steffen and Botilda (Krogh) Berkness. She attended District 80 Country School in Jackson County and then Lakefield High School, graduating in 1948. Evie married Arthur Hussong on December 9, 1951, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lakefield. After marriage, they were blessed with three children, Kathleen, Jolene, and Steven. They made their home and farmed southwest of Okabena for 30 years. Arthur died on February 4, 1985.

Evie worked at several different places, including Walker and Crawford Insurance office in Lakefield, Swiftlines Inc. in Worthington, and then 30 years as a cook at Southwest Star Concept School in Okabena. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield where she taught Sunday School and held many different offices of the church. She sang in the church choir for many years, belonged to the Bethlehem Lutheran Ladies where she was the treasurer for 36 years. Evie was a very active American Legion Auxiliary member and held many offices of the unit and sang in the Okabena Legion and Auxiliary chorus.

Evie took pride in everything she did in life. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, playing cards, gardening, camping, and the Minnesota Twins. She loved hosting family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners and holidays. Evie stayed on top of important family events and technology to stay connected to her family near and far. She was proud to talk about her family any chance she got and could be found in the front row of their sporting events and activities.

Evie was preceded in death by her parents, Steffen and Botilda; her husband, Arthur; siblings, Curtis, Orville, LaVonne, Marine and Genevieve.

She is survived by her three children, Kathleen (Mark) Rademacher of Lakefield, Jolene (Bruce) Rients of Lakefield, and Steven (Barb) Hussong of Okabena; grandchildren, Melissa (Dana) Klontz, Angela (Brian) Sohn, Vanessa (Ryan) Jensen, Brett (Jamie) Hussong, Brittany (Dustin) Pohlman, Alisha (JJ) Galle, Jordan (Ariel) Rients, Shannon (Matt) Zurbey, Breanna (Michelle) Rients; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Hunter (Adam), Keegan, Avery, Addisen, Reese, Carter, Brecken, Claire, Kallen, Kenley, Emerald, Aurora, Griffin, Gavin, Everly, Augustus, Baylie, Aubrielle, Asher, Arie, Breeley, Mirenna, Aveda, Bryndle, Adelyn, Beckett, and Lydia; and sister, Grace Gerdes of Okoboji.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Evelyn "Evie" Hussong, age 91, of Okabena, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 21st at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, with Pastor Andrew Schensted officiating. Burial will follow at Lakefield Cemetery in Lakefield.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held Friday, October 21st from 9:00 -11:00 AM at the church in Lakefield.
