Evelyn Mae (Knakmuhs) Hanish was born on May 24, 1929, to Gideon and Erma (Jackson) Knakmuhs in Redwood County, MN. She graduated from Walnut Grove High School. Evelyn worked as a waitress at the train station on the railroad. On December 2, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage to William "Bill" Hanish at the Methodist parsonage in Walnut Grove. The marriage was blessed with four children, Rodney, Lee, Wayne and Cindy. Evelyn worked on the farm, helping Bill. Evelyn was a wonderful baker. She was famous for her apple bars. She loved to garden and can produce. Every Sunday they enjoyed family gatherings, which were always accompanied by polka music. Evelyn was a member of card club and enjoyed playing games. Evelyn was a member of the Methodist Church in Jeffers and was on the funeral committee. She was a member of the Storden Auxiliary and the Westbrook VFW. Evelyn is survived by three of her children, Rodney (Darlene "Zip") Hanish of Arizona; Lee Hanish of Jeffers and Cindy (Steve) Ryker of Jeffers; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, William (2008); son, Wayne (2011); grandchild, Terry Hanish; great-grandson, Jackson Harder; parents, Gideon and Erma; brothers Bob, Harley and Carlos; and her sister, Iola Hanson.
