Frances "Fran" Elizabeth (Henrich) Hochstein was born September 29, 1924, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Reis) Henrich in Armour, South Dakota. She was the seventh of nine children. She was baptized at an early age and later confirmed. She received her education in Sac City, IA.
On December 23, 1944, Frances was united in marriage to Alvin Hochstein in the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena. The marriage was blessed with three sons, Gary, Curt, and Randy. The couple began farming in 1949 in Christiania Township, Jackson County, MN. Fran was a true farm wife, a great cook and she loved the outdoors, her flower garden. She especially loved the smell of burning leaves in the fall.
"Grandma Frannie" loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always young at heart and game for anything, her three grandchildren even got her to go swimming one hot summer day at Fish Lake at the age of 75 and she insisted she didn't know how to swim!
Fran worked packing fruit at Minntex, where she worked for 20 years, from the age of 70 until she was 90 years old. She enjoyed the part-time work and many friends she made there.
In her never-ending faith in the Lord, she was a longtime, active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom.
Fran had some health issues and entered the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom in July 2015, where she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the age of 97 years.
Fran is survived by two sons, Gary (Cheryl) Hochstein of Windom; and Randy (Connie) Hochstein of Windom, MN; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Heidi Baloun (Matt Schindle) and Mason and Nolan of North Mankato, Holly Louwagie (Steven) and Brody, Layla, and Bronson of Marshall; Billy Hochstein of Windom; Lee Hochstein of Lauderdale; and Donna Hochstein of Springfield, MI; one step grandson, Steven Smith and one sister, Aggie.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Alvin (3/6/08); and son, Curt (7/26/2018).
