Obituary

Gary Wilson was born on August 14, 1945, in Rochester, Minnesota to the late Clifford and Hazel (Gulbrandson) Wilson. He received his education in the Hayfield Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1963. Gary then attended one year of college in Rochester. On March 29, 1967, Gary was united in marriage to Ruth Steenblock at the Dexter Methodist Church in Dexter, Minnesota. He worked for thirty years at Johnson's Eye Clinic in Worthington, as an optician. Gary continued his work at Walmart Vision Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa for another ten years until his retirement. In 2007, Gary and Ruth moved to Lakefield and then to Jackson in 2018 and settled in Sioux Falls in 2020. Gary enjoyed attending his grandson's activities. Gary could be described as humble, kind and gentle who was a loving husband and grandpa. He loved reading, golfing, family gatherings, his Norwegian heritage, but most of all, his faith. Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Wilson of Sioux Falls; one son, Garner (Kelly) Wilson and their sons, Bryce and Blake Wilson; one daughter, Charlene (Darrin) Somnis and their sons, Derek and Isaac Somnis; two siblings, Clinton (Marie) Wilson and Darlene (Jim) Black; and one sister-in-law, Maureen Steenblock. Gary is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dean Wilson; and two brothers-in-law, Charles and Clarence Steenblock. Blessed be the memory of Gary Wilson.
