On July 11th Gene Schenk, a comrade in the war for human freedom, passed after a heroic battle against Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Farmer, friend, and indomitable fighter. He was a brave soldier in the War for Human Liberation.
Gene Arnold Schenk was born July 17, 1954 in Comfrey, MN, to Arnold and Carol H. Thiesse Schenk. He was baptized and confirmed in The First Congregational Church in Comfrey.
He attended and graduated from Storden-Jeffers High School in 1972. He served as the Minnesota state FFA Secretary from 1972-1973. After graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota and studied Agriculture. He enjoyed playing baseball, and also student coached the Gopher Baseball team.
In 1985, Gene moved to Chicago to pursue his passion in political organizing, meeting many of his friends and colleagues, that became his family.
Gene married Sheilagh Soules on July 20, 2015 in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. They made their home in Landsdowne, PA.
Gene passed away on Thursday, July 11th, 2019, at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania.
Preceding him in death was his father, Arnold, and his wife, Sheilagh Soules Schenk.
Survivors include, his mother, Carol H. Schenk of Windom, MN; brother, Randy (Carol) Schenk of Windom, MN; and sister, Leah (Rick) Crow of Laporte, MN.
