Glenda (Belz) Defries was born May 19, 1940 to Merritt and Thelma (Friedrichsen) Belz in Hartley, Iowa. She graduated from Moneta, Iowa in 1958 and then attended Mankato Commercial School for nine months. Glenda then worked as a secretary for an insurance agency in Cherokee, Iowa for about nine months and had to return home and help her folks on the farm. They sold the farm and moved to Worthington, Minnesota before attending beauty school in Mankato and graduated from there and received a job in Windom where she was in partnership with Eva Morgan. She met Loren in 1963 and they were united in marriage on April 17, 1964 in Windom, MN. They were blessed with four children, Denise, Kevin, Rhonda and Lance. Glenda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom and helped with McPrayer for 15 years with the Methodist Church. She enjoyed her 6 grandkids and loved to watch all of their games along with baking and making cookies and giving them away. Glenda and Loren had many trips to Texas and Branson. Glenda was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2001 and was 17 years cancer free when it came back all over her body. On Monday morning, March 16, 2020, Glenda passed away at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington at the age of 79 years. Glenda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Loren Defries of Windom; four children, Denise Wirtz, Kevin Defries, Rhonda Petersen, and Lance (Jill) Defries all of Windom; 6 grandkids and 8 great grandkids; two brothers, Dale (Maurine) of Spencer, IA and Merle Belz of Worthington, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, sister-in-law Janet Belz. She will be missed by many family and friends. Blessed be the memory of Glenda Defries.
