Obituary

A Funeral Service for Gordon "Gordy" Zimmer, age 71, of Windom, will be held Friday, May 8th at 11:00 AM at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom.

A visitation for Gordy will be held on Thursday, May 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue Friday, May 8th at the American Lutheran Church in Windom for one hour prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed on the church's Facebook page.

Gordon Arthur Zimmer was born on March 22, 1955, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, to Afrom and Alice (Willaby) Zimmer. Gordy was a true character who could strike up a conversation with anyone and was known for his signature "nostril flair". He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake on April 24, 1955, and was confirmed on March 30, 1969, at the Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township in Todd County, near Bertha, Minnesota.

He grew up in the Comfrey area and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1973. Gordy went on to work as a heavy equipment operator for the Cottonwood County Public Works and retired in March 2021.

On June 25, 1977, Gordy was united in marriage to his bride, Victoria Lynn Kruckenberg, at the United Methodist Church in Windom, Minnesota. Together, they made their home in Windom and raised their three daughters, Katrina, Christine and Amanda. Gordy loved family gatherings and took every opportunity to cheer on his grandkids at their sporting activities. Popcorn balls were one of Gordy's favorite snacks. As an avid outdoorsman, Gordy enjoyed casting his line to catch a Walleye and hunting deer.

On Sunday, May 3rd, Gordy was called home to heaven. He passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom, Minnesota

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Victoria "Vicki" Lynn Zimmer of Windom; daughters, Trina Zimmer (John Nyborg) of Windom, Chris Zimmer (Brent Chacula) of Windom, and Amanda (Solomon) Swanson of Lakeville; eight grandchildren, Jada (Jacob) Richardson, Sade (Tkoel) Iyechad, Mason Chester, Chayton Struck, Ember Struck, Maci Struck, Hayden Barlow, and Talia Swanson; one great-granddaughter, Aria Iyechad; siblings, Tammy (Chad) Crowell of Windom; Tom (Dawn) Zimmer of Windom; parents-in-law, Maurice and Glenda Kruckenberg; brother-in-law, Gene Kruckenberg; as well as many relatives and friends.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Afrom and Alice Zimmer; grandson, Malik Chester; siblings, Allen, Don and Douglas Zimmer, along with an infant brother; and sister, Jody Zimmer

Gordy will be remembered for his easy conversation, his unmistakable sense of humor and the joy he brought to family and friends.
