Gregory John Appel was born August 10, 1955 at Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, MN to Arnold Appel and Phyllis (Long) Appel. He attended school at Sacred Heart Parochial through 6th grade and went on to graduate at Heron Lake Public High School in 1975. Following graduation, Greg attended Pipestone Vo-tech Institute and graduated in July 1976 in meat cutting. Greg worked in various places in Minnesota and Iowa until getting a job at Gordy's in Windom in 1987. He eventually was made Meat Department Manager in 1988. When the Windom store closed, he transferred to the Jackson Sunshine Foods until retiring in 2019. Greg loved to hunt deer and bear and also enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed sports and collected coins and baseball cards. Greg was also treasurer of MDHA, Foresters and bowling. Greg passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2020 at his home in Windom. He is survived by his brothers, Gary, and Keith, both of Heron Lake. Greg was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Phyllis and baby sister Mary Jane.
