Nov 7, 1935 — Sep 17, 2024
A Celebration of Life Visitation to honor the life and memory of Gwendolyn Anderson, age 88, of Westbrook will be held Wednesday, September 25th from 1 to 3 PM at the Westbrook Community Center in Westbrook.
Gwendolyn "Gwen" Ann Anderson, daughter of Harris and Eunice (Priebe) Johnson was born November 7, 1935, in Slayton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Dovray, MN. Her childhood was spent in Dovray and on her parents' farm south of Dovray. She attended country school, District #31 until the fourth grade, when she transferred to Westbrook Public School. Gwen graduated from Westbrook in the class of 1953. She furthered her education at the School for Practical Nursing in New Ulm, MN, graduating from there in 1954.
On November 14, 1954, Gwen was united in marriage to Kenneth Anderson of Westbrook at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Dovray. Together they lived in Slayton, Dovray, Westbrook and Tracy and raised four daughters: Janet, Mary, Marjorie and Jeanine. During this time Gwen was employed at the hospital in Slayton, Tracy and Westbrook. Gwen and Kenny and their girls moved to Westbrook in 1966, where they have lived since.
They belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, where Gwen enjoyed being active as a Sunday School and Bible School Teachers, member of Sonbeams, Miriam Circle, Shalom, Altar Guild and church council. Highlighting Gwen's interests were memorable, enjoyable fun trips. Together Kenny and Gwen went to every state except Alaska. Other interests of Gwen's included cross-stitching, knitting, reading, Sunday night popcorn, working in the yard, playing cards, being with family and friends and enjoying life with laughter. Her treasures were her husband, family (especially her grandkids) and special pet dog, Oleanna. She will always be remembered for her strong faith, endless energy, her laughter, her jokes, but most of all how deeply she loved her family.
Gwen passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial in Windom at the age of 88.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 69 years, Kenneth Anderson of Westbrook; four daughters, Janet Peterson of Windom, Mary (Ryan) Noomen of Westbrook, Marjorie Kujawa (Steven) of Atwater, Jeanine Anderson of Plymouth; ten grandchildren, Naomi Peterson, Nicholas Peterson, Jared Peterson, Debi Brummer, Abraham Noomen, Melanie Noomen, Derek Lamb, Jaime Kujawa, Jed Kujawa, Angela Anderson; ten great grandchildren, sisters, Garnet Haugen and Gail (Mark) Skroch; brothers, Jim (Marleen) Johnson, Lee (Karin) Johnson and many other relatives and friends.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents and infant twin sister.
