Harlan "Luke" Cyril Olson was born on March 8, 1930, in Christiania Township in Jackson County, Minnesota to Cyril and Gea (Brenne) Olson. He was baptized on April 20, 1930, at American Lutheran Church in Windom and was also confirmed there on June 11, 1944.
Harlan attended Windom Public School and graduated in the class of 1948. After graduating, Harlan enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1953 after servicing his country for 3 years. Harlan then spent the next years on the farm at Christiania Township.
He then met the love of his life Eileen Shannon Mitcheom and the two were married on July 25, 1959. After marriage the couple moved to Mankato, Shakopee, and Burnsville. They moved to Fountain Hills Arizona in 1986 until returning to Remick Ridge in Windom.
Harlan worked at the State of Minnesota Highway Department as Information Director from 1959 – 1991 when he retired. Harlan was involved in the Lions Club.
He is survived by his children; Michael (Lisa) Mitcheom of Danville, CA, and Kathleen (Richard Coan) Mitcheom of Branford, CT, six grandchildren, Ashley, Eliza, Lauren, Spencer, Benjamin and Mikael and 9 great grandchildren, adoring nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Harlan is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen, his parents' Cyril and Gea Olson, sisters; Lavonne Fett, Francis Fett, and Shirley Overass.
A Graveside Service for Harlan Olson, age 91 of Windom, will be at 12:30 PM on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN with full military honors.
Harlan "Luke" Olson passed away on September 27, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial in Windom.
