Hazel Jean (Johnson) Leopold was born on February 12, 1928, in Jeffers, Minnesota to Walter and Laura (Quade) Johnson. She was baptized on October 3, 1931 and later confirmed on September 21, 1941 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. She received her education from the Jeffers High School where she graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1947.
On October 13, 1956, Hazel was united in marriage to Delaine "Shorty" Leopold at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. This marriage was blessed with two children, Blake and Gale. After marriage, for a short time, Delaine and Hazel farmed before moving into Jeffers in 1960. Hazel worked for the State Bank of Jeffers for sixty years. Delaine passed away on January 25, 2007. In January of 2011, Hazel moved to the Pine View Assisted Living in Windom where she lived until passing away on Friday evening, April 6, 2012 at the age of 84.
Hazel was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers where she was a Sunday school teacher, WELCA Ladies Aid treasurer, and involved in the sewing circle and the Ruth circle where she enjoyed going and seeing her friends she made there. She enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers, fishing, quilting for church, sewing, knitting, reading, and baking. She always had some kind of "sweet" treat to eat at her house and the grandchildren loved her "candy drawer." Hazel will also be remembered for her creative spirit and her Saturday Lunch times.
Hazel is survived by her two children, Blake Leopold and his wife, Sue, of Redwood Falls and Gale Swenson and her husband, Cory, of Storden; five grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Schmotzer of Windom and Dorothy Gruing and her husband, Roger, of Comfrey; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Laura and husband, Delaine.
Blessed be the memory of Hazel Jean Leopold.
