HELEN CATHERINE BECKER was born on April 17, 1934 in LaCrosse Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the youngest child of Rochus and Catherine (Wagner) Appel. She was baptized and later confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. She attended country school in District #97 near Miloma, Sacred Heart Catholic School, and later Heron Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Richard Charles Becker on November 10, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After marriage, they lived in Heron Lake. They shared 32 years of marriage until his death on August 18, 1987. They were blessed with five daughters, Bridget, Suzann, Lisa, Lori, and Luci, and two sons, Nicholas (Nick), and Leon (Lonnie). Helen was an extraordinary homemaker and was passionate about it. She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was active in Sacred Heart CCW and Catholic Order of Foresters, served as Eucharistic Minister and Offertory. She also volunteered with the Lakeview Home Auxiliary and the Jackson County Food Shelf. Helen's hobbies included embroidering, sewing, baking, babysitting, volunteering, mowing the lawn, and watching The Price is Right. She loved hosting and attending family celebrations. Helen also enjoyed socializing with many friends and neighbors. Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend left this life peacefully on April 18, 2021 at the age of 87.
She is survived by her children: Bridget (Scott) Lyons, Windom; Suzie (Ron) Paplow, Dundee; Nick Becker, Heron Lake; Lisa (Kent) Taber, Redwood Falls; Lori Becker, Des Moines, Iowa; Luci (Peter) Goedtke, Fulda; and Lonnie Becker, Heron Lake; her 13 grandchildren: Ryan (Juliane) Paplow, Michelle (Tim) Bader, Erin (Andrew) Kodet, Alyssa Lyons, Hannah (Nate) Thooft, Lacey (Dusty) Gorder, Brooke (Cole) Huhnerkoch, Christian Goedtke, Nathan Goedtke, Matthew Becker, Sierra Goedtke, Morgan Becker, and Jared (Mollie) Taber; 9 great-grandchildren: Raymond and George Paplow, Liam and Peter Kodet, Makai Thooft, Wren Gorder, Riley, Connor and Ella Taber; sisters-in-law, Barb Appel, Heron Lake; and Donna Appel, Aitkin. Helen will be welcomed in heaven by her parents; her husband, Richard; 5 brothers: Herman, Lawrence, Albert, Bernard, and Arnold Appel; and two sisters, Louise Voit and Margaret Gilmore.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Becker, age 87 of Heron Lake, will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 2nd at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake with Father Pratap officiating. Family and friends are welcome. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in rural Heron Lake.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held one-hour prior to the funeral Mass, from
12-1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Heron Lake.
Helen Becker passed away Sunday, April 18th, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
