Henry P. Franz was born on January 5, 1918, at home in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Peter and Helena (Friesen) Franz. He was baptized at the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft and graduated in 1937 from Mt. Lake High School. On September 16, 1943, Henry was united in marriage to Estella Cook at the Grove Lake Methodist Church near Brooten, Minnesota. For many years, Henry and Estella farmed near Bingham Lake. Estella passed away on November 8, 2006. After her death, Henry remained on the farm until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where he remained until passing away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 27, 2011, at the age of 93 years. Henry was a member of the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft. He served on several boards through the years including the National Land O' Lake Board, the Minnesota Valley Breeder's Association (MVBA), the U of M Ag Advisory Committee, the Cottonwood County Fair Board and was a director at the First National Bank in Windom for several years. He also served as a local 4-H leader for several years. Henry will be remembered for his farming, a fine registered Holstein dairy herd and Registered Chester White Hogs. Henry is survived by his two sons, Dean Franz and his wife, Pam of Northfield; Jay Franz and his wife, Marilyn of rural Windom; daughter-in-law, Joann Classen of Bingham Lake; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter Franz and his wife, Marion, of Edina; one sister, Elizabeth Fast and her husband, Arlie, of Bingham Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Henry is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Franz; one brother, Harry (Emma) Franz, one sister, Helen Roos, and special aunt, Sue Matz.
