Henry Gustav Mews was born on December 6, 1932 in Christiania Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Fritz and Blondina (Dunse) Mews. He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Delafield Township, Jackson County, Minnesota and later confirmed on April 14, 1946 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. He received his early education in Christiania Township and graduated from Windom Public School in the Class of 1950. On May 16, 1954, Henry was united in marriage Delores Ann Bretzman at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Heron Lake Township. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Bruce and Perry. From 1954-1956, while Henry was in the military, Delores and Henry lived in Fort Campbell, Kentucky until 1956 when Henry was honorably discharged and they moved to Christiania Township in Jackson County and then to Heron Lake Township. In 1960, they moved back to Christiania Township and in 1968, they moved to Cottonwood Lake Drive in Windom. Delores passed away on March 18, 2008. Three years ago, Henry moved to his current home on 6th Avenue South in Windom. Henry enjoyed wintering in Florida for the past 25 years and passed away there on February 6, 2019 at the Braden River Rehabilitation Center in Bradenton, Florida at the age of 86 years. Henry was a longtime, dedicated member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom where he was an elder and usher. Outside of his church, Henry was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 206 in Windom where he was commander in his earlier years. Henry had many enjoyments in life which included farming, being on the lakes, traveling-but not by air if he could help it, talking to friends and relatives on the phone and coffee at several establishments throughout Windom. Henry's dedicated family who mourns his loss includes his two sons, Bruce Allan Mews of Windom; Perry Lee Mews and his wife, Gina Ann of Fort Worth, TX; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Twogood (Warren) of Colorado; Darlene Wood of Cedar Rapids, IA; Helen Mews of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Marie Wasmund Mews; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Henry is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores Mews; brother, Vernon Mews; infant brother; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
