Obituary

Hilma Martha Thompson was born on December 31, 1918, in Westbrook, Minnesota to William and Emelia (Noding) Sell. She was one of 12 children. She attended Westbrook Public School, graduating on June 7, 1937. She furthered her education by attending St. Cloud Teachers College, graduating in 1939. Her first position was in a country school, District #1-Windom. Hilma worked as an educator for 42 years before her retirement in 1981. On June15, 1941, Hilma was united in marriage to Archie Thompson. Hilma earned her teacher's degree, at Mankato Teachers College and graduated in 1953. She later taught in Storden, Heron Lake and Jeffers. They were members of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden but transferred their membership to the American Lutheran Church once they moved to Windom. Archie passed away on March 1, 1998. After his death, Hilma continued to live in Windom until moving to be closer to her daughter, Rebecca in Excelsior. Hilma became a resident of The Estates at Excelsior and remained there until her passing, Monday, October 21st at the age of 100 years. Hilma had many enjoyments in life which included baking, sewing, fishing, reading, and playing cards. She was especially known for her skill at making lefse and kringles. Most important to her was maintaining connections with her large extended family, especially her grandchildren. Hilma is survived by her two children, Larry Thompson (Pat) of Mankato; Rebecca Bolin (Scott) of Excelsior; grandchildren, Paige Chase, David Beecher, Allison Jennings, and Taylor Nunn; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe, Sam, Anna, and Thomas Chase; Layla and Mason Nunn, and Landon and Logan Jennings, and several nieces and nephews. Hilma is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Archie Thompson and her 11 brothers and sisters, and James Nunn. She truly loved life and was a role model to many. Blessed be the memory of Hilma Thompson.
