A private family burial will be at Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Rost Township.

The service will be livestreamed on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Facebook page.

IInes Kathleen Henning was one of six children born to Raymond and Hilda (Lubben) Schmidt on April 09,1945, at their home farm west of Lakefield. She grew up on the family farm and loved playing softball. She graduated from Okabena High School with the class of 1963.

On July 26, 1963, Ines was united in marriage with the love of her life, David Robert Henning at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Dave and Ines enjoyed 58 years and 7 months together on various adventures. They were blessed with three sons, Mark, Luke, and Matthew.

After a life-changing accident in October of 1977, Ines was wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life. This might have slowed some down, but not Ines! Most of their trips were done together, but if Dave could not get away, Ines did not let that stop her from going. They loved tooling around in a custom Harley (including a trip to Sturgis), wintering in Arizona and Palm Springs, California, trips to Hawaii and Mexico, and countless road trips and stays at her favorite spots in northern Minnesota. We always joked that she should have started a "differently abled" travel guide.

Dave and Ines farmed until he retired in 2017, but Ines still stayed involved with helping to transition the operation to the next generation. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, and the house was often decked out with as many decorations as Dave and her sons would hang for her. Ines was an avid Christmas village collector and was even highlighted in the local paper for her large collection.

Ines's main passion was her family. She always made time for her kids and her grandkids. Sporting events, school recitals, grandparent's day – anything one of the grandkids were participating in, she was there - front and center. She loved playing cards and often taught them their first lessons in losing, as she never let someone win unless they earned it.

Many stories unfolded around their kitchen table and on their deck over the years. Fish fries and pheasant dishes were her specialty and always included a side of advice from Dave.

Ines was called home to God and reunited with Dave on Monday, August 18, 2025. Keeping her memory close in heart are their children: Mark (Cathy) of El Mirage, AZ, Luke (Lori) of Lakefield, MN, and Matthew (Robin) of Lakefield, MN; seven grandchildren: Tyler Burton, Ashley (Billy) Henning, Brittany (Ryan) Livermont, Cameron (Mackenzie) Henning, Jolie Rossiter, Ayla Henning, and David Henning; great grandchildren: Eden, Fisher, Graham, Henlee, Theodore, Iverson, William, Juliet, and Kolby; her three siblings: Jewell Hussong, Edward Schmidt, and Marvin Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews. Family meant the world to her.

Ines was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Henning; parents, Ray and Hilda Schmidt; siblings, Curtis Schmidt and Jeannette Jorgensen; brothers-in-law, Sig Lillegard and Jerry Hussong; niece, Catina Henning; an infant daughter; and three infant great grandchildren.

Blessed be the memory of Ines Kathleen Henning. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Immanuel Lutheran School.
