A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Jack Carter, age 93, of Jeffers, will be held Saturday, December 7th at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. Burial will be in the Jeffers Cemetery in Jeffers with full military honors provided by Odegaard-Quade American Legion Post 401 of Jeffers. The service will be livestreamed on the Trinity Lutheran Church Facebook Page.

A visitation for Jack will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jack's name are preferred to either the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers or the Jeffers Senior Center.

Jack Silas Carter passed away on November 22, 2024, at the age of 93 at the Sanford Westbrook Medical Center in Westbrook, MN. Jack was born on November 28,1930 to Harry and Enid (Knott) Carter in Dale Township near Jeffers, Minnesota and spent his entire life in the community he cherished.

Jack leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 70 years, Lorretta Oeltjenbruns Carter. He is also survived by his daughters Carmen (Butch) Narveson of Chatfield MN, Carol Hendrickson of Golden Valley MN, Christine (Dana) Schmitz of Okabena MN, Charlene (Kevin) Graff of Lamberton MN, and Corliss Carter of Meier Grove MN; sister-in-law Claudette Carter and brother-in-law and wife Walter and Margareta Oeltjenbruns, and many nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved by his 10 grandchildren and his 14 great-grandchildren brought him immense joy.

Jack attended country school in Delton Township and graduated from Jeffers High School where he participated in the band and played football. His three fun and rascally brothers were his lifelong best buddies. Jack had a great work ethic and enjoyed his career as a farmer, at the Jeffers Coop Elevator and fertilizer plant, as custodian at the Jeffers Public School and as a caretaker for HRA housing in Jackson. Jack served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired with military honors. He was a member of the Jeffers Legion for many years.

He was married to Lorretta Oeltjenbruns in 1954 and was a devoted husband and father. He and Lorretta enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as gardening, making horseradish, fishing, playing cards, dancing, playing music at nursing homes, church, Senior Center activities, service to their community, fostering children, and frequently visiting and helping their children and grandchildren. They found peace and contentment in each other's company and their bond was a testament to a life well-lived and love well-shared.

A lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, Jack's faith was a rock that guided him through his life's journey. He served on the church council and was committed to teaching Sunday School for the older children of the congregation.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rex, Dale and wife Audrey Carter, Donald and wife Arlene Carter, Ivan Carter, sisters Louise Frederick and Ione Dolan, and parents-in-law Gerhard and Olga Oeltjenbruns.

Jack was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, tinkerer, handyman, master of Duct Tape, and originator of the Jack Cut. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had the knack for deep connections with those he met, especially young people. His good humor, cheerful outlook, and his mischievousness will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched.
