Jack Jude Determan was born on September 25, 1950 in Carroll, Iowa to the late Lyle Frederick and Doris Margaret (Bernholtz) Determan. He was baptized at St. Bernard's in Breda, Iowa and later confirmed at the St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Jeffers. Jack received his early education at the Jeffers Elementary School in Jeffers and then graduated from Jeffers High School in the Class of 1968. He then furthered his education at Jackson Vocational School until being drafted into the United States Army in June of 1970. He then served during the Vietnam War from 1971-1972 until being honorably discharged and returning to the Jeffers area.
On August 31, 1970, Jack was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Maras at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers. This marriage was blessed with three children, Curt, Julie and Travis. In 1972, Jack began working for Schwalbach Hardware in Windom until 1975 when he started Jack's Plumbing and Heating in Jeffers until 2010 when he completely retired.
Jack was a former member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers and a current member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. He had many enjoyments in life which included fishing, tinkering, building, measuring, vehicle restoration and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On Wednesday evening, June 17, 2020, Jack passed away peacefully at his home in Jeffers surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69.
Jack is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Ruth Ann Determan of Jeffers; three children, Curt (Amber) Determan of Jeffers; Julie (Mike) Tully of LaCrescent; Travis (Sarah) Determan of Montgomery; honorary daughter, Heidi Hill of Windom; eleven grandchildren; one sister and two brothers, Connee (Craig) Thorstad of Alexandria; Kevin (Diane) Determan of Jeffers; David Determan of Jeffers; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diane (Dennis) Ossenfort.
