Obituary

James "Jim" Holt entered this life on April 23, 1948, to the late Milford O. Holt and Leona M. (Van Gerpen) Holt in Windom. Upon confession of his faith in 1964, he was baptized at the Evangelical Free Church in Windom. He attended Jinx County school in Cottonwood County through the 6th grade and graduated from Windom Public School in 1966. After graduating high school, Jim attended Jackson Vocational School completing his Journeyman Electrical Certification. Jim enlisted in the Navy Seabees in August of 1968 as an electrician, served one tour in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in August 1970. He then began to work for Hiebert Electric in Windom shortly thereafter. In March of 1984, Jim received his Class A Masters Electrician License and started his own business – Holt Electric. On June 1, 1974, he was united in marriage to Marie Harder at the first Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake. To this union two daughters were born Sarah and Elizabeth. Over the years his daughter's adventures led him to the prairies of Trail City for prairie dog hunting, the beaches of Hawaii, historic Washington DC, and relaxing in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Accompanying him on these travels was his wife and greatest love Marie. He was a member of the VFW and Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed reading especially history, deer hunting with family, gardening, creating copper jewelry, relaxing on his acreage, and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson, Riley James. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-eight years, Marie Holt of Windom; daughter Sarah (Dale) Gadbois and grandson Riley of Hermosa, SD; his three brothers and spouses, Roger and Tammy, Rodney and Carol, and John and Judy all of Windom; nieces and nephews, Tamara (Brian) Draper, Dan (Erin) Holt, Robyn (Rob) Scripture, Travis (Tonya) Holt, Troy (Sara) Holt, Zach (Kelcey) Holt, and Jesse (Micara) Kolander. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Ann; and sister, Lisa Holt. Blessed be the memory of Jim Holt.
