James Robert Klaassen was born on February 13, 1943, to the late Ben and Eva (Stark) Klaassen, in Windom, Minnesota. James was baptized in Westbrook.
James' early education was at Westbrook Elementary School, and he attended high school at Windom Area High School and Westbrook High School. After graduating, James attended Augustana University in Sioux Falls for two years, before transferring to the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine, on June 15, 1967.
On December 29, 1963, James was united in marriage to Lei Lani Fuller. The couple was blessed with three children, Tony, Tierney, and Tiffany. Dr. Klaassen first began his dental practice in Madelia and later moved to Windom. He worked for 46 years, until retiring in 2013. Jim loved seeing his patients and "farm talk". The family lived on Fish Lake.
James was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. He served his community as Superintendent of Sunday school, Windom School Board, Jaycee's and the Lions Club. His interests included reading several newspapers each day, following the stock market, and having lunch with friends at Hardees. He especially loved taking Tony to concerts and sporting events, and annual camping and Valleyfair trips with his grandchildren.
James passed away on Saturday, July 16th at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
Left to cherish James' memory are his daughters, Tierney Viessman of Canby and Tiffany (Scott) Riesgraf of Mankato; five grandchildren, Payton, Parker, Presley, Abby and Ben; special friend, Carol; as well as many dear relatives and friends.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Lei Lani Klaassen (2015); son, Tony Klaassen; parents, Ben and Eva Klaassen; and sisters, Lyla, Lenora, Alice and Delores.

A Celebration of Life Service for Dr. James Klaassen, age 79, of Windom, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 25th at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, in Windom, with Reverend Paul Sajban officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom.
A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Monday, July 25th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at church in Windom.
