Jan Eileen Silva was born on April 2, 1941, to the late Donald and Christine (Vagle) Brewington, in Worthington, Minnesota. She attended Lakefield Public Schools graduating with the class of 1959. After graduation, Jan moved north and began her career. On November 15, 1969, Jan was united in marriage to Joe Silva.

For most of her life, Jan worked in a bank and as a travel agent. While she enjoyed her job at the bank, her passion was working as a travel agent for American Express. This job gave her the ability to travel the world and explore new places, and she found great satisfaction helping others plan the best vacations for themselves. She loved helping people become the best versions of themselves and spent many years selling Avon.

Jan loved spending time with her family, and she enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with her mother. Jan's witty sense of humor and her infectious laugh that could get anyone to join in the fun. She would share elaborate tales from all her travel experiences, often reliving the times in Russia, where locals drank vodka with every meal. Jan loved animals and had many pets over the years.

Ten years ago, when her health began to fail, Jan moved back to her hometown of Lakefield, where she was cared for by her niece Erin and her family. With the help of private care givers, Jan was able to live in the comfort of her own home as her health declined. On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Jan passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Jackson, Minnesota.

Jan will forever be remembered by her favorite and only niece, Erin; great-nephews and great-niece, Levi, Aubry, and Trayton; and great-great-niece, Paisley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Silva; parents, Donald and Christine; and her favorite and only brother Gary D. Brewington.
