Jane K
Morris
Feb 9, 1952 — Mar 1, 2026
A Celebration of Life Service for Jane Morris, age 74, of Jackson, will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, in Jackson, on Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.
Jane Kay (Handevidt) Morris was born on February 9, 1952, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Maynard Hans and LaVerne Lucille (Hirschel) Handevidt. As a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson, Jane was baptized, confirmed, and later married there.
Jane graduated from Jackson High School in 1970 and continued her education at Worthington Community College, earning her associate degree. She faithfully served others as a Licensed Practical Nurse, where her compassion for aging adults was evident in every role she held. Jane worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, Truman Senior Living, a nursing home in Kansas City, Jackson Hospital, and Doman Rose Assisted Living in Lakefield. Her gentle presence and caring spirit brought comfort to many residents and families. She was also a proud member of the Jackson VFW Auxiliary and faithfully marched in the Memorial Day parade each year.
Family meant everything to Jane. She treasured her children and grandchildren and found great joy in gathering with them. Gifted with a beautiful voice, Jane began singing at a young age, sharing her talent at weddings and funerals. In high school, she was a member of "The Free Spirits" folk group and later sang with "The Spirit of Harmony" in Spirit Lake, Sweet Adelines, and the Jackson Chorale. Music was one of the ways she expressed both her faith and her love for others.
At the age of 61, Jane suffered a stroke. In the years that followed, she resided at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, where she was lovingly cared for and where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Jane is lovingly remembered by her children, Eric L. (Holly) Morris of Mankato, and Brooke L. (Dan Pelava) Morris of Madelia; her grandchildren, Chandler Meyer, Kyle Wolterman, and Jacob Morris; Tyler (Katy) Horning; Matthew Horning (fiancé, Olivia); Gabriell; and step-grandson, Landon; along with other dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and LaVerne Handevidt; her sister, Nancy (Scot) Hocum; and her fiancé, Scott Vickerman.
Blessed be the memory of Jane Morris.
