Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor the life and legacy of Jed Costley, age 25 of Jackson, will be held Saturday, July 11 at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson. Burial will be in Eastside Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

A visitation for Jed will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson for one hour prior to the service.

Jed passed away on July 6th, 2026, at his home in Jackson.

Jed Briner Costley was born in Ashland, Wisconsin to loving parents Len and Mary Costley and was raised in Hayward on the shores of beautiful Beaver Lake. His childhood was filled with fishing, swimming, getting into trouble with his friends, and driving (and sometimes crashing) pretty much anything that could go fast.

After graduating from Hayward High School, Jed moved to Estherville, Iowa to attend Iowa Lakes Community College, where he studied Wind Turbine Technology. While in Estherville, he worked behind the meat counter at the local Fareway. Little did he know, his future bride and love of his life was right across town in the floral department of the rival grocery store.

Jed and Erika welcomed their first baby on March 11th, 2024, a son named Berkley Leonard Costley. They soon moved to Jackson, Minnesota, where Jed took pride in fixing up and settling into their first home together on Dewey Street. Here was where a neighbor and soon-to-be co-worker and friend got him a job at Hy-Line chicken hatchery, where he worked as a maintenance tech. Jed and Erika took their love to the courthouse and were married on February 26th, 2026, complete with a wedding ring that Jed had custom-made for Erika from his uncle Robbie, a jeweler in International Falls, Minnesota. Soon thereafter, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Violet Jean Costley, on June 9th, 2026.

He loved his wife and children more than anything in the world and could rarely be caught without Violet in his arms or Berkley (and sometimes even the dog, Moose) on his shoulders. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and even his neighbor Jeannie who he made sure always had a hot meal and a shoveled driveway. Jed's kindness and generosity will leave a lasting impact on every single person who knew him.

Jed is survived by his loving wife, Erika Costley, his son, Berkley Costley, and his daughter, Violet Costley. He is also survived by parents, Leonard and Mary Costley; sister, Josie Anderson (Tim Anderson); brother, Matthew Ruck (Cailyn Ruck); mother-in-law, Kimberly Olson; father-in-law, Darin Olson; sisters-in-law, Emilee Dalen (Logan Dalen) and Elizabeth Olson (Codey Hayes); brother-in-law, Jacob Olson (Mackenzie Olson); aunts, Cathy Leusing (Jessie Leusing), Nancy Warden (Brian Warden), Margi Christopher (Greg Christopher), Julie Kamp-Trefenbach (Jason Trefenbach), Lori Trompeter, and Janis Costley; uncles, James Kamp and Robbie Trompeter (Kathleen Trompeter); grandmother-in-law, Jolene Ayers, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He is preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by grandmothers, Virginia Kamp and Olympia Benassi; grandfathers, Donald Kamp, Victor Costley, and Joseph Benassi; cousin, Molly Warden; aunts, Carla Weitzel-Kamp and Victoria Trask; uncles, Joseph Kamp, Wade Costley, Perry Trask, and Art Ayers; and close family friends, Marian Maki and Kevin Hansen.

Though his time here was far too short, Jed's legacy as a husband, father, son, brother, and friend lives on through the family he adored and the memories that will be treasured forever by those who loved him.
