Joan Earlewine, 88, of Windom, MN passed away June 26, 2019 at Auburn Homes in Chaska, MN. Joan Marie Carlberg was born August 4, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa to Harry and Ethel (Godwin) Carlberg. Not long after, her family moved to Windom, where her father ran Carlberg Grocery on 4th Avenue on the town square. She graduated from Windom High School in 1948. After completing coursework for floral design in Omaha, Nebraska, Joan returned to Windom and on May 28, 1950 married John Earlewine at First Presbyterian Church in Windom. Throughout her life, Joan was always actively involved locally in her favorite pastime, gardening. Learning skills and knowledge passed down from her parents at an early age, Joan began working at Jeffery Green House while in high school. Later, she was a member of the Windom Garden Club, and for many years worked at Hillside Greenhouse. She thoroughly enjoyed being in her own garden; from spring planting to summer picking to cooking and baking to caring for her beautiful flower beds, especially her favorite – lilies. In her younger years, Joan played piano, sang in both her church choir and in a girl's trio, and was crowned Windom Flax Queen. Joan is survived by daughter Marcia (Earlewine) Eickholt of Eden Prairie, son Bruce Earlewine of Excelsior, son David Earlewine of Eden Prairie, granddaughter Cory Eickholt, nephews Wynn and Fred Earlewine, and nieces Lynn Ashby and Candace Kisley. She was preceded in death by her husband John Earlewine, her parents, brother Gordon Carlberg, and a sister who died in infancy. Friends are invited to join Joan's family for visitation held at the LaCanne Family Funeral Home on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. A private family ceremony will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
