JoAnne Louise Cowan was born May 28, 1944, in Minneapolis to Joseph and Myrtle (Haugen) Peterson. JoAnne grew up in South Minneapolis and was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She attended Burrough Elementary School and Washburn High School graduating in 1962. After high school, JoAnne attended Gustavus Adolphus and graduated with honors in 1966. She then moved to Windom and took a History Teaching job until 1970.
On June 8, 1968 JoAnne married the love of her life Collin Thomas Cowan at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The marriage was blessed them with two children: Brian and Scott. In the early 1980's, JoAnne took a teaching position at Comfrey Public Schools until 1985 when she became a State Farm Agent until her retirement in 2006. Through the years, JoAnne had many accomplishments in her life including, Teacher of the Year, Educator of the Year and multiple honors through State Farm.
JoAnne was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom, the Windom Country Club where she started the junior golf league and served as a member on the Windom Area Hospital Board. Her enjoyments in life included golfing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
For the past several years, JoAnne was a resident of the Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn where she passed away on Monday morning, April 13, 2020 at the age of 75 years.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 51 years; Collin Thomas Cowan of Windom, her two children, Brian (Jennifer Rhodes) Cowan of Watertown; WI; Scott (Jessica) Cowan of Windom and their two children, Owen and Levi Cowan; one sister, Karen (Tom) George of Windsor Heights and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding JoAnne in death are her parents, Joseph and Myrtle and brother, Charles Peterson.
