Jonathan "John" James Menssen, was born on August 9, 1971, the son of Kenneth Menssen and Sharon Gunder. He received most of his education through the Windom Public Schools. Through the years, John has worked as a mechanic, masonry, farmhand, bull/livestock hauler, and most recently for Country Pride Cooperative Services as a Custom Applicator/Equipment Operator. On May 7, 2011, John was united in marriage to Rebecca Sue Swenson at Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton. After marriage, John & Becky lived in rural Jeffers, later moving to Delft. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting with friends and family but most of all John loved spending time with his children - restoring Oliver tractors with Jacoby and Becky's uncle, spending many hours with Carson in the truck hauling livestock, and always making sure to get his daily hug from his "Little Audrey", playing video games with the boys and family Nerf wars (or as he called it "Gang up on Dad") John had enjoyed spending time with the many friends he made while he was a member of the Freedom Riders. On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, John passed away at his home in Delft at the age of 48 yrs. John is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Menssen of Delft; children, Victoria (Forrest) Toney of Dickinson, ND; step-daughter, Chelsy Swenson (Andy Jenniges) of Storden; and Jacoby, Carson and Audrey, all of Delft; four grandchildren, Brian-Michael Toney of Dickinson, ND; and Rylee, Callee and Cooper, all of Storden; siblings, James (Courtney) Menssen of Windsor, CO; Kaylan (Anthony) Shipman of Mesa, AZ; Ashley (Michael) Lautzenheiser of Mesa, AZ; Mickie Whelan of Eldon, MO; and Tiffney Larson of Lakefield, MN; parents, Kenneth (Jeanne) Menssen of Sherburn, MN; foster mom, Penny Harrington of Miller, MO; mother, Sharon Larson of Lakefield, MN; and grandmother, Helen Menssen of Sherburn, MN; and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his son, Waylon Menssen; biological father, Ronald Lee Sonnabend; grandparents, Walter Menssen and Leslie and Helka Gunder.
