Joy Jean Flatgard (Gee) was born on December 9th, 1935, in Jackson, Minnesota to the late Jay and Clara (Anderson) Gee. Joy attended school in Jackson, graduating in 1953. Her favorite classes were English, Band and Choir. She played the clarinet in band and sang alto in choir. On July 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Dwayne (Nick) Orville Flatgard. They were blessed with three children: Kari, Kathy, and Danny. Through the years they made their home in Windom. Joy worked several jobs until her husband's health turned bad. Joy's love for music continues. Her favorite singer is Elvis and had many of his CD's and movies. She also enjoyed Country Western music and could be seen dancing to those tunes. She bowled in her younger years and played golf later on. The group of women she golfed with also plays cards together weekly. She crocheted and had made many Afghans and doilies through the years. She loved her daily crossword puzzles in the paper. Family meant the world to Joy. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom until moving to Assisted Living at Oak Terrance in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Joy is survived by two daughters. Kari (Ernie) Hunter of Windom, Kathy (Jim) Effle of Rochester; a son Danny (Sherry) Flatgard of Mankato; a stepson Dan (Barb) Solberg of Oronoco, grandchildren, Amy (Patrick) Hunter, Jeffrey Hunter, Ryan Effle, Erin (Scott) Spritzer, Nicholas (Brittney) Flatgard, Jacob Flatgard, Katelyn Flatgard; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Joy in preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Clara; her husband, Dwayne Flatgard; her sister, Twyla Anderson and two sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law. Joy has requested no services and only a private family burial. She will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom along side her husband.
