Joy Elaine Fricke Hohenstein was born on the family farm in rural Lakefield, MN on November 11, 1931, to Herbert and Martha (Wagner) Fricke.
Joy was baptized on December 6, 1931, and later confirmed on May 27, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN. She graduated from Lakefield Public High School in 1948. Joy met the love of her life Marvin and the two were married on October 3, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN. This union blessed them with 3 children: Teresa, Rona and Kim.
Joy was strong in her faith. She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield where she was a member of the Ladies Aid for many, many years.
Joy had many enjoyments in life such as gardening, spending time with her family and reading the bible. Joy was an avid reader and was a member of the Friendly Garden Club.
Joy became a resident at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake, MN in 2019, where she enjoyed new friendships, excellent meals, and care from the attentive staff. She passed away peacefully there on Friday, July 16, 2021, at the age of 89 years old.
Preceding Joy in death are her parents, Herbert and Martha, her loving husband of 53 years Marvin and brothers: Clint, Norman, William and Lyle Fricke and son-in-law Rick Frank.
Left to cherish Joy's everlasting memory are her three children; Teresa (Keith) Cranston of Lakefield, Rona (late Rick) Frank of Paullina, IA and Kim (Michele) Hohenstein of Lakefield, eight grandchildren; Dawn (Paul) Kazemba, Landon (Jamie) Cranston, Stacy Ackermann, Becky Streiff, Camille (Kent) DeZeeuw, Ross (Danielle) Frank, Alex (Molly) Hohenstein, Nolan (Remi) Hohenstein; eight great-grandchildren; Brendon (Janae) Kazemba, Cali Cranston, Clay Cranston, Lillian DeZeeuw, Violet DeZeeuw, Ryder Messelhiser, Jovi Hohenstein, Rikki Frank; sister; June McDanielle and brother; Robert (Linette) Fricke. She is also survived by numerous nieces; nephews and their families and countless number of friends Joy has made throughout her lifetime.
