A Celebration of Life service to honor the life and legacy of Joyce Matasovsky, age 75, of Sprit Lake, formerly of Jackson and Lakefield, will be held at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lakefield.
The service will be livestreamed on the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center Facebook page.
Joyce Kaye Matasovsky was born on January 21, 1950, at Halloran Hospital in Jackson, Minnesota, to the late Milton and Elaine (Grantz) Matasovsky. Joyce was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. Joyce attended Country School #111 through the sixth grade and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1967. She continued her education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, earning a degree as a Medical Technologist in 1971. She completed an internship for one year at a hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Over the years, Joyce worked in laboratories at hospitals in Fairmont and Sioux City. In 1985, she moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, to be closer to family and made her home on the north shore of West Lake Okoboji. She worked at the Spirit Lake hospital until she retired in 2011. Joyce enjoyed flower gardening and took pride in her plantings.
Joyce had a passion for history and genealogy, spending hours researching family and local history. Joyce privately compiled a book about the Holy Trinity Cemetery history with a pictorial guide of family buried there and a plot map. She also fostered and adopted several Cairn Terrier dogs through the years and was a proud member of the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network. Joyce enjoyed traveling, with highlights including a trip to Europe and a Rhine River Cruise in 2018 through Germany and Switzerland.
On September 29, 2025, Joyce passed away peacefully at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Cherishing her memory are her siblings, Corrine Muske of Spearfish, SD, Loren Matasovsky of Jackson, Susan (Dale) Schulz of Jackson and Steven (Brenda) Matasovsky of Jackson; six nieces and nephews, Rev. James (Mary) Muske, Erin (Darin) Amick, Laura (Cole) Rossow, Kristin Schulz, Sarah Matasovsky and Jayson Matasovsky; four great nieces and nephews, Holly, Blain, Haddie and Camryn; one aunt and uncle, Gladys (Rev. David) Schmidt; and numerous cousins and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Elaine; teenage brother, Paul Matasovsky (1968); and her grandparents.
May the memory of Joyce Kaye Matasovsky be a blessing to all who knew her.
