Karen Faye Mathias was born on March 29, 1937 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Elmer and Louise (McCallister) Hochstein. She attended elementary school in Fulda, Minnesota and graduated from Clarkfield High School in the Class of 1954. She later attended and graduated from the Minneapolis School of Business. On June 11, 1956, Karen was united in marriage to George Edward Mathias at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. This marriage was blessed with four children; Larry, Diane, Lois, and David. Throughout her life, Karen was an office administrator at Sioux Engineering and then at HCL in Windom. Later in life, she was a substitute Para at the Heron Lake-Okabena schools until retiring in 2014. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, where she held the offices of the President of the Council of Catholic Women and Guild Chairman. Karen also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and President in 1968 and 1976. Karen's greatest enjoyment in life was her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Karen is survived by her husband of 62 years, George Mathias of Heron Lake; four children, Larry (Rhett Merrill) Mathias of Palm Springs, CA, Diane (Brad) Doherty of Heron Lake, Lois (Bryan) Eigenberg of Windom, David (Devara) Mathias of Pasadena, CA; nine grandchildren, Becky, Jessie (Ann), Christina (Elgin), Jenny, Dustin, Darci (Derek), Amber (Jessy), David and Natalia; and six great-grandchildren, Keaton, Ariyah, Kalel, Kaeja, Dawson and one on the way; one brother, David (Sara) Hochstein of Garland, TX; She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Louise Hochstein; one brother, Bruce Hochstein; and two sisters, Janice Campbell and Shirley Futch.
