Kenneth "Kenny" Earl Hunter Jr. was born on December 5, 1946 to Kenneth and Beverly (Iverson) Hunter in rural Windom. He was baptized into the Christian faith in 1948 and grew up loving the outdoors, wildlife, and farming. During this time, he attended String Lakes country school and in his early teen years, the Hunter family moved to rural Fulda. Kenny went on to graduate from Fulda High School in 1964, and the family moved to Wilder. On April 25, 1969, Kenny and Barbara Ann Schmidt were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. They made their final home in Wilder, where they would remain throughout their entire 50-year marriage. Kenny was the father of two sons, Kraig and Kevin. He was always involved in farming, both directly and indirectly – this was his passion. Kenny and his brother Gordy were avid hunters, spending many hours together in nature, until Gordy's passing in 1979. Kenny held a variety of jobs during his working years – Schweitzers, Toro, Windom Implement, Wilder Elevator, and New Vision Co-op. After his retirement in 2013, Kenny continued to help local farmers during spring and fall operations. Kenny was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. He served the community of Wilder as a councilman and as the mayor. Kenny served on the Jackson County Revolving Loan Fund Committee for several years. He was the local snow removal expert, garden tiller, and handyman for the neighborhood. As a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom, he served on the finance committee and as an usher. Grandpa was Summer and Einstein's favorite family dog sitter. Kenny passed away on May 16, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family after an 8-month battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barb; two sons, Kraig (Pam) Hunter of Mount Vernon, IA, and Kevin (Shay) Hunter of Wilder; daughter-in-law, Karlene of Windom; seven grandchildren, Joe, Jake, Kennedy, Kendra, Kaycee, Tatum, and Levi; one sister, Marge (Mike) Eichner of Windom; sister-in-law, Sandra (Gordy) Hunter-Snow of Windom; brother-in-law, Larry Schmidt of Mazeppa; nieces and nephews, Loni, Travis, Autumn, Dustin, and Roland. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gordon, and his nephew Jon. Blessed be the memory of Kenny Hunter.
