Kent Arden Erickson was born on June 13, 1960, to Arden and Ruth Ann (Fredericksen) Erickson, in Westbrook, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm north of Storden, with his younger brother, Curt. He committed his life to Christ at Camp Shetek and was later baptized at the Storden Baptist Church. Kent attended elementary school at Storden and graduated from Storden-Jeffers High School with the class of 1978. After graduation, he farmed with his father and raised his own hogs. On July 22, 1989, Kent was united in marriage to Karlain Piotter at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. This union was blessed with three children, Travis, Tyler, and Brittany Erickson. They made a life together on a farm north of Storden. His life was his family, farming and raising hogs, things he truly loved. He worked briefly for Keith Johnson at Johnson Feed & Equipment in Westbrook. Kent was very active in his community. He was a MSHSL basketball referee for over 20 years and he coached elementary basketball. He was a member of the Cottonwood County Pork Producers and Cottonwood County Corn and Soybean Growers. Kent served as a volunteer of the Storden Fire Department, was a 4-H Leader for the Storden Strivers 4-H Club, and a board member of the Rolling Hills Golf Course. He also was an usher at the Storden Baptist Church. In his younger days, Kent loved to play softball. Later, he turned his energy toward golf. He played every Wednesday in Men's League and golfed every opportunity he could. Kent loved to drive around the Storden area and stop and talk with people. Kent was blessed with the "gift of gab" and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved sports, especially watching the MN Twins, Gophers, Vikings and professional golf. He enjoyed watching his children's activities and being with family and friends. On June 20, 2022, Kent was in a tragic accident and taken to Westbrook Hospital, where he passed away. Kent is survived by his loving wife, Karlain Erickson of Storden; sons, Travis Erickson of Storden and Tyler (fiancé, Mikaela Smith) Erickson of Marshall; daughter, Brittany (Josh Hoffman) Erickson of Storden; mother, Ruth Ann Erickson of Storden; brother, Curt (Andrea) Erickson of Springfield, in-laws, Janiece Huls, Kendall (Jana) Piotter, Danean Fenske, Marlin (Kelly) Piotter, Sharlla (John) Maras, Gaelan (Dena) Piotter, Chirlyn (Jim) Thorsfeldt, Brent (Sonja) Piotter, Rheann (Mike) Heater, Kellen (Laura) Piotter, and Lance Piotter; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Kent was preceded in death by his father, Arden Erickson; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ervin and Marlys Piotter. Blessed be the memory of Kent Arden Erickson.
