Obituary

Kornell Ray Kuehl was born on June 30, 1936, on a farm in Amo Township, Storden, MN to Raymond Martin and Dorothy Leona (Sykora) Kuehl. He was baptized at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook, MN. Kornell attended Storden Elementary School and later graduated from Storden High School in the Class of 1955. He continued his education at Dunwoody Technical School in Minneapolis, MN. He later enlisted in the South Dakota Air National Guard from 1958-1961. On August 11, 1967, Kornell married Gisela Sophia (Eigenberg) Kuehl. The marriage was blessed with three children, Ann, Kris and Thomas. The young couple lived on various farms in Cottonwood County until 1973, when they moved to the Kuehl Family Farm. In 2003, they retired and moved into Fulda, MN. Kornell farmed with his dad until 1976, when he established Kuehl Transit. He owned and operated the business for 29 years, until his retirement in 2005. During his time on the road, he worked with Warren Ewen to manufacture a tool to adjust the axle on a semi-trailer, called the "Rod Jumper". It was sold at many truck-stops nationwide. Kornell was a member of the Amo Lutheran Church in Storden. He volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for several years, while his children were in school. Kornell was an avid hunter, water skier, and fisherman. He was a member of the Sun Valley Gun Club for many years, and Kuehl Transit sponsored a club shooting team. During his retirement, he enjoyed making and selling wooden games, especially Fast Track and Pegs & Jokers. During retirement he enjoyed prairie dog hunting in South Dakota, riding 4-wheelers in the AZ desert, and RV traveling in North America. Kornell passed away on June 20, 2021, at the age of 85 at Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda. Kornell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gisela; daughter, Ann (Pete) Bartelt of Windom, MN, and children, Sophia Nelson, Taylor (Nathan) Breuer, Kaitie (Nathan) Luitjens, Sami Bartelt, and Marshall Bartelt; daughter, Kris Kuehl of Minneapolis, MN; son, Thomas (Dana) Kuehl of Storden, and children Madison, Landon, and Ian Kuehl; one great-grandchild, Remy Breuer; two sisters, Marlene Smith of Windom and Janice Pitcher of Urbandale, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
